WIRELESS PAYMENT
Crunchfish Proximity AB develops payment solutions for shops. With a mobile app, wireless payments are made via the blippit terminal. The system also handles electronic discount coupons and vouchers.
Communication is via Bluetooth and the terminal is easily connected via USB to the store's cash register. The product is designed for mass production with low power consumption and robustness in focus. It utilizes very smart solutions for secure and frictionless mobile payments both on-line and off-line. This is a major breakthrough and has the potential to transform the payment market globally and accelerate the transition from card payments to real-time payments account-to-account or from mobile wallets.
TECHNOLOGY
The hardware consists of circuits for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), USB communication and sensors. Production test equipment is developed for mass production.
BLE is available in all phones today, so it is a suitable technology to use for a payment solution. Several different methods are used in parallel to detect the proximity between the phone and the payment device in order to achieve a secure system.
The software is written in Nordic Semiconductor's development environment nRF52. The devices can be updated afterwards via USB DFU.
Nordic Semiconductors has a wide range of features integrated in the nRF52840, such as NFC, BLE, USB CDC etc.... In addition to this, their support is available and helpful. Updates of the Bluetooth stack are continuously released by Nordic, with improvements and changes according to the Bluetooth standard.
During the project, we worked closely with Zenit Design for industrial design and mechanical design.
